A lot of fans tabbed Justin Thomas to win the Charles Schwab Challenge going into Sunday. He entered the final round one shot off the lead and playing in the penultimate pairing.

JT was seeking what would be a PGA Tour-leading third win of the 2019-2020 season after rounds of 64-68-66. He instead came out flat, carding just two birdies en route to a T-10th finish.

Thomas lost a whopping -3.608 strokes on the greens in the final round and did well to manage 13 greens with an errant driver.

It’s hard to be too tough on a guy who did just record his seventh top-10 in 10 starts this season. This also came at a course that’s far from tailor made for his skill set.

Harbour Town isn’t a bomber’s paradise, either, but he has made the cut in both visits.

Thomas finished T-11th at the RBC Heritage in 2015 (70-67-68-69) and 75th in 2016 (72-70-77-82). He was just entering his prime at that point and could really do damage in 2020.

The Kentuckian is eighth on Tour in strokes gained approach (.932). Thomas is third in proximity from 125-150 yards (18’3″) and seventh from 150-175 (24’3″).

All it takes is for him to make the weekend to be in the tournament. He’s second on Tour in birdie average (4.93).

By all accounts, Thomas is a pretty competitive guy. I like for him to use the disappointment from Texas to his advantage this week.
