RBC Heritage: Top 10 power rankings at Harbour Town
In four starts at the RBC Heritage, Bryson DeChambeau has left Hilton Head Island either penniless or with a six-figure check.
He nearly won his first PGA Tour event here as a rookie in 2016. DeChambeau fired 70-69-72-68 to finish four off the pace.
The SMU grad missed the cut in 2017 before bouncing back a year later. DeChambeau finished T-3 (68-64-75-66) and finished just one shot out of a playoff. He would’ve been the favorite against Si-Woo Kim and eventual champ, Satoshi Kodaira.
DeChambeau claims Harbour Town is a comfortable stop on the schedule.
“I love this place,” DeChambeau was quoted by ASAP Sports in 2018. “And I’ll come back here for a long, long time. It’s pretty special to me and it always will be.”
Yet, in 2019, he was rueing a missed cut by two shots after carding rounds of 70 and 73.
With all that said, it looks like DeChambeau’s due for another top-five in 2020, right?
That’s right where he wound up last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge. A missed birdie putt on the 72nd hole kept him out of a playoff and forced him to settle for a T-3 finish.
DeChambeau’s prowess off the tee was on full display as he led the field in driving distance (340.4 yards) while hitting a modest 58.93% of his fairways.
I believe he will have to be a bit more restrained off the tee this week, but that shouldn’t kill his momentum. He seeks his fifth straight top-five and sixth of the 2019-2020 season.
