RBC Heritage: Top 10 power rankings at Harbour Town
Patrick Cantlay was one of few top players, particularly Americans, to sit out last week’s first tournament back at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
It makes sense why Cantlay would want to be rested for Harbour Town. He’s got three top-10s at the RBC Heritage in as many starts, going T-3 (70-66-70-67), T-7 (67-72-68-68) and T-3 (67-72-66-69) since 2017.
Cantlay has a way of flying under the radar, whether he’s winning or not. He hasn’t hoisted a trophy yet in 2019-2020 despite some high finishes.
Cantlay’s best outings of late were at the Shriners (2nd) and Tournament of Champions (4th) as well as top-20s at Pebble Beach and Riviera.
The former UCLA Bruin has a well-rounded game. Last season, he finished second on Tour in total strokes gained (1.857) and was no worse than 26th in any category.
Cantlay will be hard pressed to replicate that, but he’s top-50 this season in all SG categories aside from putting.
Precise approaches are of high value at Harbour Town. Cantlay is second on Tour in greens in regulation (75%) and can score from anywhere as he’s sixth in proximity from the rough (36’9”).
It will be interesting to see if Cantlay’s restedness will pay off against a field in which nearly everyone got competitive reps last week at Colonial. I think he’ll post yet another top 10 and be in the hunt Sunday.
