We go from one venue that doesn’t particularly suit Jon Rahm’s game to another with the jump from Colonial to Harbour Town.

Normally, the big man can still navigate tight, short courses fairly well, but that wasn’t the case last week. He shot an underwhelming 69-71 to miss the cut by two at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Rahm hadn’t missed a cut on the PGA Tour since this same event in 2019.

He hit the ball well, though averaging 306.8 yards off the tee, 64.29% fairways hit and 75% greens in regulation. It was the putter that let him down as he dropped more than two shots per round to the field.

Rahm now heads to the RBC Heritage for the first time. He won’t be able to cut as many corners with driver like he did at Colonial, but he’ll still have plenty of short clubs into greens. Plus, his putting ought to rebound.

He still ranks 14th on Tour in strokes gained (.702). Rahm ranks seventh on Tour in sand saves (64%). We’ve seen plenty of finishes at this event come down to bunker play on 18.

The 25-year-old Spaniard has emmerged as one of the game’s more consistent talents. He posted seven straight worldwide finishes inside the top 17 heading into Colonial. Two of those were European Tour wins and two were solo second place finishes on the PGA Tour.

Rahm’s missed the cut in consecutive starts just once since 2017.
