The PGA Tour heads to the northeast for the Travelers Championship

Editor’s Note: This article has been revised after Daniel Berger and Brooks Koepka withdrew from the Traveler’s Championship.

The first two weeks of the PGA Tour’s return to competition have resulted in some highly entertaining finishes. It took a playoff to win the Charles Schwab Challenge and over a dozen guys still had a chance to win late on Sunday before a winner emerged.

The field for the first two weeks was pretty homogenous with most of the best players teeing it up. That’s the case again here at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

We’re still missing Tiger, as well as some internationals like Tommy Fleetwood and Adam Scott. Eight of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings are playing as No. 9 Patrick Cantlay is in action after skipping the last two events.

The Travelers Championship remains in its original slot on the PGA Tour schedule, albeit with a better field thanks to the US Open, usually held last week, getting bumped to September.

The 154-player field will take on TPC River Highlands. It’s a Pete Dye design that’s been the tournament’s host course since 1984.

For the third straight week, a short course is on display. This one measures 6,841 yards for a par of 70. Fairways are bentgrass and greens are poa annua. These greens are common on the West Coast, so guys who played well in January and February could fare well here.

It’s more open off the tee than Colonial and Harbour Town. Big hitter Bubba Watson has won three times here. He won one of those beating Corey Pavin in a playoff, which goes to show the diversity of playing styles that have a chance here.

The early weather forecast shows temperatures in the 60s-80s Fahrenheit with a chance of rain Wednesday and Sunday. Winds look to be fairly moderate.

Regardless of moisture, the greens are usually soft and slow.

Low scores are needed to win this event. Twelve-under or better has won every year since 2004. Jim Furyk posted the lowest round ever on the PGA Tour with a 58 in the final round in 2016 — and he still didn’t win!

It once again took a lot of nitpicking to whittle a strong field down to 10 players for this week’s power rankings. Here are my best bets to win at the Travelers Championship:
