The PGA Tour schedule shakeup resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic is leading to several players teeing it up in locales they don’t often frequent. That’s the case for Jon Rahm, who makes his second start at the Travelers Championship.

The Spaniard finished T-25th (65-70-69-69) in his rookie season in 2016. He didn’t drive it or putt all that well, but showed he could still hit tons of greens (77.78%) playing out of position.

Rahm seeks to regain the form he had to start the 2019-2020 season. Shortly after winning twice in the fall on the European Tour, he picked up a pair of runner-ups on the PGA Tour as part of five top-10s.

His last two starts saw him miss the cut on the PGA Tour for the first time since May 2019 at Colonial and post T-33rd last week at Harbour Town. The 25-year-old started off last week with a disappointing 71, but played his last 54 holes as well as almost anyone at 12-under. He hit 76.39% GIR, which is no small feat on Harbour Town’s tiny greens.

Rahm just wasn’t quite able to bring those two short courses to their knees. He’ll try again this week coming in at fourth in strokes gained off the tee (.774). The former Arizona State Sun Devil is also putting well at 21st in SG (.626).

Rahm is hitting enough greens. He’s just not dialed in with his proximity. I expect that to change at TPC River Highlands where he’ll vie for his third win in the US.
