This week, the PGA Tour presents the fantasy golf community with the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Let’s take a look at this event from a Draftkings/DFS perspective!

The PGA Tour travels to Detroit, Michigan for the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic. This will be the second year that this tournament has been played. The event will be played at Detroit Golf Club. The course is a par 72 that measures 7,340 yards. This track was designed by Donald Ross.

If last year’s results at this event is an indicator of what will occur in this year’s tournament than you should expect to see plenty of low scores throughout the four day event. I think it is fair to say that you can characterize this golf course as a resort style track.

For fantasy golf research purposes other Donald Ross designs include:

  • Sedgefield Country Club-Wyndham Championship
  • East Lake Golf Club-Tour Championship

Let’s shift our focus to what I love doing the most! Here are my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Tyrrell Hatton $10,700

The current 15th ranked golfer in the world has quite simply been playing some outstanding golf over the last year. Hatton has played nine tournaments on the PGA and European Tours combined since September 2019. In those nine events just mentioned, Hatton has eight top 18 finishes, including a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

Hatton also checks the box for me when it comes to key statistics. He currently ranks 10th in GIR (greens in regulation-71.94%), first in strokes gained approach (1.194), second in strokes gained putting (1.086), and first in strokes gained tee to green (1.947) on the PGA Tour.

Viktor Hovland $10,000

Hovland arrives at this week’s event on the heels of three consecutive top 23 finishes on the PGA Tour, including an eleventh place result at last week’s Travelers Championship. He also finished 13th at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Doc Redman $8,500

The 22 year old American finished second at last year’s inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic. He also has two consecutive top 21 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 21st place result at the RBC Heritage two weeks ago. Additionally, Redman is currently ranked 25th in strokes gained off the tee (.436) and fourth in total birdies (251) on the PGA Tour.

Lucas Glover $8,400

The 2009 United States Open champion has three consecutive top 23 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 21st place result at the the RBC Heritage earlier this month.

Brian Stuard $7,400

Stuard finished 20th at the Travelers Championship last week. He also finished fifth at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Mark Hubbard $7,200

He has two top eleven finishes in his last six tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an eleventh place result at the Honda Classic in March.
