The curious case of Brendon Todd continued last week at the Travelers Championship. Once a PGA Tour winner back in 2014, Todd nearly left the pro game in recent years due to driver yips.

He scratched and clawed his way back to the PGA Tour for the 2019-2020 season and immediately made the most of it. Todd won in back-to-back weeks at the Bermuda Championship and Mayakoba Golf Classic last fall. He nearly won a third straight event at the RSM Classic, where he finished in fourth.

These are far from elite events, but there’s still something to be said about earning multiple trophies.

He again was on the precipice of a PGA Tour-leading third win when he took the 54-hole lead at the Travelers by two shots thanks to a Saturday 61.

Todd’s career has been a roller coaster, and Sunday was one of the low points of the ride as he carded a 75 and dropped to T-11th.

Nonetheless, it was still a solid bounceback tournament after missing his last two cuts.

The 34-year-old dazled with the driver, leading the field with 51 of 56 fairways hit (91.07%). He’s third for the season at 73.86%.

That accuracy will again be essential to avoid Detroit Golf Club’s thick rough. He’s 219th on Tour in driving distance (280).

There are a healthy amount of bunkers in play this week. The former Georgia Bulldog leads the Tour in sand saves at 69.05%.

Todd has made nine of 14 cuts this season.

He wasn’t even able to get into the field at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic. A year later and he’s a legitimate pick to win.
