Fantasy Golf: Workday Charity Open Draftkings First Round Showdown Picks
By Hans Geevers
Fantasy golf fans can rejoice as the Workday Charity Open is set to begin on Thursday morning. Let’s take a look at this event from a Draftkings perspective!
Before I discuss my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections I wanted to clearly emphasize that this article is focused on the first round showdown contest. The single round showdown contest offered by Draftkings is vastly different with regard to scoring than the traditional classic contest.
For those readers that are not aware, the classic contest offered by Draftkings focuses on an entire golf tournament. In direct contrast to the classic contest, the showdown contest is focused on only one round.
If you have additional questions regarding the single round showdown contest I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
Here are my fantasy golf player selections for the first round showdown contest!
Patrick Cantlay $10,000
The 2019 Memorial Tournament champion arrives at this week’s event in very good form. He finished fourth at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January and more recently he finished 11th at the Travelers Championship in June.
Cantlay currently ranks fourth in GIR (greens in regulation-73.15%), fifth in strokes gained approach (.926), ninth in scoring average (69.577), second in birdie or better percentage (27.78%), and third in birdie average (4.83) on the PGA Tour.
Brooks Koepka $9,800
The two time United States Open champion has played eight rounds since the PGA Tour re-started the season a month ago. In those eight rounds played, Koepka’s average round score has been 67.5. Additionally, all eight rounds he has played since the re-start of the season has been in the sixties. Kopeka finished seventh at the RBC Heritage in his last start on the PGA Tour last month.
Cameron Champ $7,600
The 25 year old American fired a first round 66 at the Charles Schwab Challenge last month en route to an eventual 14th place finish. Champ also won the Safeway Open in September.
Ian Poulter $7,400
Poulter has five top 29 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, including a 14th place result at the RBC Heritage in June. He has played three first rounds since the re-start of the season. In those three first rounds just mentioned, Poulter has an average first round score of 65.6.
Scott Stallings $7,300
He is currently ranked fifth in first round scoring average (68.53) on the PGA Tour. Additionally, Stallings finished sixth at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago.
Richie Werenski $6,900
Werenski shot a first round 67 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week on his way to a 21st place finish. Werenski also finished 17th at the Honda Classic in February.
As always, good luck!
