Fantasy Golf: Sleeper and Undervalued Draftkings Selections for Memorial Tournament
By Kasey Kuhrts
Each and every week Hans Geevers brings you his Fantasy Golf selections. His selections are always solid, and I always check his weekly article before setting my roster.
As he brings you his favorite picks each and every week, I am going to start brining you my sleepers/undervalued selections. In my articles, you will only find fantasy golf players that cost you under the average salary on Draftkings.
The most important thing I will be shooting for each and every week in these articles, is made cuts. You are almost guaranteed a payout when all of your players make the cut. With my help, I hope I can steer you in the right direction of some value picks and win you some money!
This week the PGA Tour repeats in Ohio for the Memorial. I have six undervalued players I think are worth checking out for your team!
Remember, the key stats this week at the Memorial will be shots gained on approach, approach from 150-175 yards, strokes gained tee to green, strokes gained putting, and par 4 efficiency 450-500 yards.
Adam Hadwin: $7,400
Hadwin comes in just over $1,000 cheaper than the average salary this week. After an incredible Thursday last week, it looked like Hadwin would be in-contention the entire weekend. Although that didn’t happen, Hadwin made the cut, and finished in a tie for 35th.
It’s as close to a lock as you can get that Hadwin will make the cut. Hadwin is 11/12 in cuts this season, and his only missed cut was at Pebble Beach in February.
This season Hadwin is 10th on tour in Par 4 efficiency 450-500 yards, one of the key stats this week. Hadwin was also 4th last week in sand saves, saving five of his six bunkers hit. At the Memorial sand saves are important, but I wouldn’t call it a key stat.
Keegan Bradley: $7,200
Keegan comes in $1,100 cheaper than the average salary on Draftkings and appears to be a solid play. Last week Keegan led the entire field in strokes gained on approach, the number one key stat in my opinion. Bradley totaled 10.752 shots gained on approach, a huge number.
Bradley was 5th last week in shots gained tee to green, as well as 5th in approaches from 150-175 yards. Keegan was solid in just about every aspect on his game last week, expect putting.
Keegan was 66th in field last week in strokes gained putting with -6.884 total strokes gained.
Even with the awful work on the greens, Keegan still finished in the top 40, and even made an ace. There is no reason to believe Keegan’s approach game will fall off this week, and if he can do anything with the flatstick, he might have the most upside of anyone in the tournament.
Lucas Glover: $7,100
Coming in $100 less than Keegan, Glover has quietly been playing great golf since the return. Although we didn’t see him last week, Glover has made all four cuts since coming back, and finished T23,T21,T20,T21 in those events.
Obviously the consistency has been there for Glover, but the main reason I like him is his track record of putting on bentgrass. Glover has a career 1.197 strokes gained putting on bentgrass. Pairing that with being 27th on tour this season with strokes gained on approach, I believe Glover is another lock for a made cut.
Troy Merritt: $6,600
As well as appearing on Hans’ list, I have Troy Merritt on my list. Merritt is a steal at $6,600, and would be a great play if you are trying to have two top-tier players in your lineup.
Merritt has made his last four cuts, and only missed one since coming back from the shutdown. He finished in a tie for eighth in Detroit, and T22nd last week.
Merritt was 5th last week in strokes gained on approach, gaining a total of 7.016 strokes last week. Merritt also finished 3rd last week in approaches from 150-175 yards, as well as ranking 14th in strokes gained tee to green last week.
Like Bradley, Merritt was let down last week by his putter. Merritt was 39th in the field last week in strokes gained putting. However, Merritt should be good for a made cut, even if his putter doesn’t get hot.
Talor Gooch: $6,500
Another player you will see on Hans’ list is Talor Gooch. The cheapest player on my list is another great choice if trying to sneak a couple high-priced players into your lineup.
Talor finished 8th last week in approach, 9th in par four efficiency 450-500 yards, 9th in shots gained tee to green, but 40th in shots gained putting. Once again, all of the stats are solid for Talor, but he needs to get the putter going.
But even without the putter, Talor finished in a tie for 17th last week, his best finish since the Arnold Palmer. Talor has made 14/18 cuts on the season, and racked up 80 points in Draftkings last week, which is more than you can ask for from a player priced under $7,000.
