Fantasy Golf: 3M Open Draftkings Preview and Player Selections

This week, the fantasy golf community will be presented with another talented field as the PGA Tour shifts to the state of Minnesota for the 2020 3M Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a DFS/Draftkings perspective!

Before I dive into my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play and the key statistics that I think will be the most vital to a player’s success this week.

The 2020 3M Open will be played at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota. The golf course is a par 71 that measures 7,468 yards. Although the golf course has 27 water hazards, this track can be best characterized as a resort style golf course that is vulnerable to low scores.

The 3M Open made its debut on the PGA Tour last year. Just to further emphasize this track’s vulnerability to low scores let’s take a look at the winning score of last year’s champion. The 2019 3M Open Champion, Matthew Wolff, won the event with a four round cumulative score of 21 under par.

The key player statistics that I am focusing on this week are par four scoring average, birdie or better percentage, strokes gained off the tee, bogey avoidance, strokes gained putting, and GIR (greens in regulation).

Here are my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the 2020 3M Open.

Tony Finau $10,900

The 30 year American has four top 14 finishes on the PGA Tour in 2020, including an eighth place finish at the Memorial Tournament last week. In relation to last week’s Memorial field, upon the completion of four rounds of play, Finau ranked first in birdies made (21), 14th in strokes gained off the tee (3.334), first in putts per GIR (1.548), and fourth in driving distance (318).

With all due respect to the other talented golfers playing the 2020 3M Open, as of today, entering this week’s event, I think Finau is playing the best golf tee to green combined with putting of anyone in this week’s field. For that reason, I am rolling with Tony Finau as my lead Draftkings selectIon this week.

Lucas Glover $9,400

The 40 year old American has four top 23 finishes in his last five events on the PGA Tour. Additionally, Glover finished seventh at the 2019 3M Open, which was also played at TPC Twin Cities.

Russell Henley $9,200

In his last five events played on the PGA Tour Henley has three top 17 finishes, including a seventh place result at the Workday Charity Open two weeks ago.

Doc Redman $8,700

The talented young American has three top 21 finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour, including an 11th place finish at the Travelers Championship last month.

Henrik Norlander $8,600

Norlander has four top 12 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, including a sixth place result at the Memorial Tournament last week.

Chase Seiffert $7,000

He has three top 23 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, including an impressive fourth place result at the Workday Charity Open two weeks ago.

Brandon Hagy $6,700

Hagy has two top 21 finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including a 16th place result at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February.
