JT Poston had a dream week en route to defeating the king of Sedgefield, Webb Simpson, by one at the 2019 Wyndham Championship.
The Hickory, North Carolina fired 65-65-66-62 to take home the trophy. Hewas the first PGA Tour player since 1974 to hit all 72 greens.
“Yeah, it feels unbelievable. I mean, a dream come true,” Poston was quoted by TeeScripts in 2019. “You know, I’ve always dreamt that I could win out here and I felt like I kind of proved that. Gave myself some chances over the years. But to be able to do it here in North Carolina with a lot of friends and family, I don’t think I could have drawn it up any better.”
That turned a steady 2018-19 season into a great one.
The 27-year-old is playing solidly again in 2019-2020. Poston recorded a T-11th at the Sanderson Farms Championship and T-14th at the RSM Classic early on.
The West Coast swing was tough on the Hickory, North Carolina native, but he’s got it going again this summer.
Poston finished T-10th at the Charles Schwab Challenge and T-8th at the RBC Heritage. Those were shorter courses like Sedgefield.
He’s 165th on Tour in driving distance (288.9) but 54th in driving accuracy (64.29%). Poston is well-versed putting on Bermuda greens and is 15th on Tour in strokes gained putting (.575).
With a good short game to boot, there’s no reason he can’t contend for a second Wyndham Championship in a row.
