The golf world already knew the type of talent Collin Morikawa was before he arrived at the PGA Championship. His win at TPC Harding Park only validated it.

At the ripe age of 23, the California kid is already a three-time PGA Tour winner with two coming in the last two months. The other was at the Workday Charity Open at famed Muirfield Village.

Morikawa surged with a Sunday 64 to win the PGA by two in comeback fashion. He now makes his FedEx Cup Playoffs and Northern Trust debut after a well-deserved week off.

He missed his first cut as a pro at the Travelers Championship this summer, bt he’s already started a new streak of three.

The former Cal Golden Bear also picked up a runner-up finish in June at the Charles Schwab Challenge where he lost in a playoff. Top-10s in the 2019-2020 season also came at the Safeway Open, Tournament of Champions and Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The bugaboo for Morikawa has been his putter. He entered the PGA outside the top 100 in SG putting, and it is the club that cost him at Colonial.

He’s not a lost cause with the flat stick, though. He led the PGA field in putting, gaining over two shots a day on the greens.

This is Morikawa’s first time around TPC Boston, but a lack of course history is no deterrent for a phenom like him.

He’s unlikely to lead the field again in putting, but his ball striking is always there. Morikawa ranks third in SG tee to green (1.524).
