4. Abraham Ancer, -0.52

3. Daniel Berger, -0.63

Because he didn’t actually win, it has been easy to overlook Ancer’s performance during the restart period. So let’s give him his proper recognition. He finished second, just one stroke behind Webb Simpson, at the RBC Heritage, and had three other top15s among his six starts.

Those included a tie for 11th at the Travelers, for 14th at the Schwab and for 15th at the WGC FedEx.

His only two relatively weak performances came at the Memorial, a tie for 58th, and at the PGA, where he tied for 43rd with, among others, Cantlay.

Berger had perhaps the most peripatetic post-restart record on Tour. He won the first event, the Schwab challenge, in a playoff with Morikawa. That was followed with a tie for third at the RBC Heritage.

Then, just as it looked like Berger might be the restart’s emerging star, he delivered an inglorious missed cut at the Memorial. But following a respite he recovered with a tie for second, three strokes behind Thomas, at the WGC FedEx. His tie for 13th at the PGA was his fourth top 15 finish in five post-restart starts.

The only real criticism of Berger’s performance is its absence of bulk. He sat out half the 10 events: the Travelers, the Rocket Mortgage, the Workday, the 3M and the Wyndham. That makes it a fair question to wonder whether he did enough to rank this high.
