Four rounds in the 60s are usually good enough to win, or at least contend on the PGA Tour. Last week, it left him 15 shots off the pace.

Nonetheless, Jon Rahm should be far discouraged after earning T-6th with scores of 69-67-67-65 at The Northern Trust.

The Spaniard did oust runaway champion Dustin Johnson in one category: strokes gained off the tee. Rahm gained 1.24 strokes per round and was first in driving distance (321.2).

These results are obviously no fluke as he’s fourth on the season in SG off the tee (.785).

He was also top 20 in the field in SG around the green and SG putting.

It was the 25-year-old’s sixth straight made cut. That streak includes a dominant win at the Memorial Tournament and T-13th at the PGA Championship.

Rahm also enters the BMW Championship ranked 11th in birdie average (4.3) and 18th in greens in regulation (70.33%). If he can improve his proximity with his irons, it’s hard to see anyone stopping him.

The former Arizona State Sun Devil played Olympia Fields both at the 2015 U.S. Amateur and at the 2015 Fighting Illini Invitational. He advanced to the quarterfinals of match play at the Am and finished T-9th at the college event.

Rahm has bequeathed the world No. 1 spot two different times since getting there for the first time after the Memorial. He can get right back on the horse with a good showing in Illinois.
