2020 Tour Championship: Top 10 power rankings at East Lake
Harris English makes just his second Tour Championship appearance. The first was way back in 2015, so you know it’s a bigger week for him than most.
The former Georgia Bulldog is playing in his home state. The first trip to East Lake resulted in T-22nd, but I see him finishing in the upper third in 2020.
English is hungry for a win. His last came in November 2013 at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
The 31-year-old won twice that year and is having his best season since. English has been consistent as anyone, piling up six top-10s, 13 total top-25s, and just two missed cuts in 19 starts.
This all comes after advancing through Korn Ferry Tour finals last fall. His playing status is locked up for 2020-2021, and he’ll even go to the Tournament of Champions by virtue of just making it to the Tour Championship. That’s a perk for the 30 at East Lake this year in order to fill out the ToC field after several events were canceled due to COVID-19.
English is in a decent position to start the week just four shots back. He couldn’t touch Dustin Johnson at the Northern Trust, but his 19-under at TPC Boston still netted him solo second. That result earned him more world ranking points than either of his wins in 2013 (the other being at the FedEx St. Jude).
He ranks top 40 on the PGA Tour in all strokes gained categories. He’s 18th in SG putting (.56 per round) and 19th SG tee to green (.987). He’s slightly above average in distance, so East Lake should be a solid course fit.
English is 10th in greens in regulation (71.14%).
He’s been one of the more popular DFS plays for his value compared with consistency.
