Charles Howell III has made a 20-year career by being a steady, if not spectacular player. He always keeps his card, and in recent years has been a favorite of daily fantasy players the way he churns out made cuts.

Does the 41 year old have enough left in the tank to squeeze out his third career PGA Tour win? I’m thinking he might, and this week will be one of his better opportunities in the foreseeable future.

CHIII comes to the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship for the first time. He brings good form to the Dominican Republic with made cuts in four of his last five starts, including T-3rd at the 3M Open where he was just three shots off the pace and one behind second.

The high finish in Minnesota highlighted four top-12s last season that helped him reach the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Howell III looked good in tough conditions last week at Winged Foot where he finished 30th at the U.S. Open (73-72-72-74). The Georgian was one of just 11 players to fire 74 or better all four days. He ranked 10th in strokes gained putting (1.47) and was in the positive everywhere else.

A tough week with his irons kept him from a higher finish. Expect him to right the ship in that regard playing from more fairways this week. Even if out of position, his short game can save him as he was 11th in SG around the green last season (.392).
