Sergio Garcia isn’t in the best form making his Sanderson Farms Championship debut, admittedly. His career, though, has been hot and cold throughout. So would it be a big surprise if he won against one of the weaker fields he’ll face all year?

I don’t think so.

Garcia, 40,  has missed three of his last four cuts but did have some good results earlier this summer. The Spaniard contended at the RBC Heritage (T-5th) and finished between 32nd-35th against tough fields at the Travelers Championship, Memorial Tournament an WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. The 10-time PGA Tour winner was also playing well before the pandemic with three top-10s between the European Tour and PGA Tour.

The 2017 Masters champ may not have been grinding on his game during the pandemic, but look for him to get his game trending back upward with Augusta drawing closer.

That can start at the Country Club of Jackson where a good ball striker like him can shine. Garcia ranked third last season in strokes gained off the tee (.848) and fourth tee to green (1.336).

Garcia was also 16th in proximity from 200-plus yards (45’11”), which will give him an advantage on the par-5s.

He was tidy around the greens, too (22nd SG, .308). Per usual the last two decades, the problem has been a balky putter. While it’s never a strength, it’s the easiest club in the bag to get a hot week going with.
