Sanderson Farms Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Country Club of Jackson
The 24-year-old Korn Ferry Tour money leader has been able to play with the big boys his last two starts.A week after finishing T-2nd on the KFT, Zalatoris made a big splash by taking T-6th at the U.S. Open in his second major championship.
The Wake Forest product then cashed in on a sponsor’s exemption last week with T-8th at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. That top 10 got him into this week’s field at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Zalatoris wasn’t in contention for the title in the Dominican Republic, but he was under par all four rounds (70-71-70-65) and played flawlessly Sunday to climb 37 spots on the leaderboard.
Zalatoris is 23rd on the KFT in scrambling (63.19%) and led the field last week at a lofty 83.33%.He was fourth in Puntacana in driving distance (306.4),T-19th in driving accuracy (76.79%) and T-10th in greens in regulation (75%). Roll in a few more putts and he’s got tbe trophy in sight.
The only cause for concern for the Big Z is fatigue. This will be his fourth start in as many weeks and eighth in the last nine. Adrenaline can do wonders, though.
I think he’s going to ride the wave for another week and get himself into the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open next week in Las Vegas.
“I was pretty flat the first couple days,” Zalatoris, who made the cut by one, was quoted by Tee Scripts. “At least I can admit it now, I was a little drained after last week, but fought like crazy and obviously just to give myself a chance, hopefully top-10 and get into next week is obviously exciting.”
