Fantasy Golf: Sanderson Farms
ATLANTA, GEORGIA – SEPTEMBER 07: Scottie Scheffler of the United States lines up a putt on the first green during the final round of the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club on September 07, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Sam Greenwood/Getty Images) /

Catching COVID-19 forced him to quarantine for a couple weeks, but the Scheff is back in the kitchen. He wasn’t quite his best last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship, but T-37th is something Scottie Scheffler can build on.

“It definitely stunk sitting at home all week watching the U.S. Open, especially the way I was playing leading into it,” Scheffler was quoted by ASAP Sports before the Sanderson. “I felt like I had a good chance of winning. It stunk, but it’s the world we live in. I felt okay, so very blessed to have felt good through all of it and came out on the other side recovered, so all good.”

The Texan fired rounds of 73-67-72-70 in his fourth straight made cut. Scheffler was 11th in the field in strokes gained off the tee (.702) and hit nearly 70% of greens in regulation. His proximity was a bit off, but I like that to improve this week as he gets sharper. Plus, TPC Summerlin’s greens are big enough for some wiggle room. He was also T-14th in driving accuracy (60.71%). That’s huge for a guy who can hit it a long way and can get some rollout this week.

He’ll be making his second tournament appearance. Scheffler started strong with a pair of 67s before falling back to T-74th.

The 24-year-old former Texas Longhorn won Rookie of the Year Honors in 2019-2020 and made it all the way to the Tour Championship. Scheffler did everything but win or finish second. He was T-3rd at the Bermuda Championship, third at The American Express and posted back-to-back T-4ths at the PGA Championship where he contended and at The Northern Trust, where he did not (thanks, DJ).

Scheffler posted the second lowest gross score at East Lake and finished fifth in the FedEx Cup.

He just barely snuck into the Masters field via his world ranking back in March. Scheffler will present a great chance at becoming the first Masters rookie to win since TPC Summerlin’s co-designer, Fuzzy Zoeller, in 1979.

What better way to build momentum than a win against a strong field in Vegas.
