Tommy Fleetwood is coming off some great golf across the pond. Can he translate it on American soil?

That’s been the question throughout the 29-year-old Englishman’s career. He’s won all over the world and contended in every big event, yet hasn’t cashed in for a win on the PGA Tour/in the U.S.

A low-stress, limited field event like the CJ Cup is a good place to break through.

Fleetwood finished T-13th against a solid field at the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship. He was in the mix with three rounds under par before a tough Sunday 73.

Fleetwood was also second at the Scottish Open the week prior and took T-3rd at the Portugal Masters late this summer. He was one of the last players to return to competition after the coronavirus hiatus, and the long-locked linkster was a little lethargic in his first events back.

He’s since turned the corner on the course and is making waves off of it. The European Tour social media team struck gold with the “Fleetwood GMac” spoof of the original viral TikTok involving a longboard, cranberry juice and Fleetwood Mac’s hit song, “Dreams.”

Fleetwood ranked 24th last season on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.389). Not only is he as long as about anyone in the non-Bryson division, but he doesn’t seem to hit it off the planet as much as his counterparts.

He was also 26th in SG putting (.437). That was his third straight season in the top 55 in that stat, so maybe his pure talent on the greens can separate him in a week where competitive stroke play history is zilch.
