A pair of third-place finishes in recent outings show me Doc Redman is on the cusp of winning his maiden PGA Tour event.

The 2017 U.S. Amateur champion turned pro in 2018 and has bounced around between Canada, the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour. He’s now found footing in the big leagues and has been solid since the June restart.

Redman made eight of 12 cuts in that span while contending at the Wyndham Championship (T-3rd) and Safeway Open (T-3rd). The former Clemson Tiger added four more top-30s and qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the first time.

Redman also is familiar with the Bermuda Championship and Port Royal Golf Course. He shot par or better all four days (69-70-66-71) en route to T-35th. He didn’t make worse than bogey all week, hit over 60% fairways and more than two-thirds of his greens. Redman just lacked the extra gear to climb into contention.

The North Carolinian’s game should set up well to improve on that result. He’s not a big hitter, which is fine in Bermuda. What really matters was Redman ranked 13th last season in fairways hit (68.27%) and 12th in greens in regulation (70.8%).

Plus, his game is in much better stead than it was a year prior. He entered the 2019 Bermuda Championship with nothing better than a T-13th in his eight previous starts.

Like much of the field, Redman will be rested for this one coming off of two weeks off.
