Brian Gay – The veteran closed out his 7-under par round of 64 with a clutch birdie on 18 to get into a playoff. Then he birdied 18 again on the first playoff hole to defeat Wyndham Clark and to win for the first time on tour since 2013.
Fred Funk – The 64-year-old Funk made PGA Tour history by making the cut this week in Bermuda. He joined Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead and Tom Watson as the only players to accomplish that feat. That’s an elite list for Funk to join.
Wyndham Clark – Despite losing to Gay in a playoff, this was a career week for Clark. The runner-up finish was the best Clark has had in his three-year tour career. He’s still just 26 years of age, and his best golf is ahead of him.
Stewart Cink – Another week, another fine finish for Cink. His 64 on Sunday moved him up 11 spots in the standings and into a tie for fourth place. He’s projected to move from fifth to second in the FedEx Cup standings, something that most did not see coming.
Kramer Hickok – The young Texan was solid all week, claiming the best finish of his PGA Tour career, a tie for eighth, in his 53rd start. He shot four rounds in the 60s and flirted with the top of the leaderboard at various points in the week.
Losers
Henrik Stenson – The former Open champion shot a 69 on Thursday before falling apart during his Friday round, where he was eight over par. Ultimately, Stenson withdrew from the Bermuda Championship, citing a foot injury.
Charley Hoffman – What in the world happened to Hoffman on Friday? He shot a 2-over par 73 on Thursday and had a shot to make the cut on Friday. But he had three double bogeys in the span of four holes to shoot 84 and to miss the cut by a whopping 14 shots.
Harold Varner III – Many saw Varner as one of the favorites at this week’s event in Bermuda. He shot 69 in the first round to put himself in position to contend this week. Instead, he ballooned to an 80 in his second round and missed the cut badly.
Hudson Swafford – Already a winner on tour this season, Swafford grabbed the lead early on Friday, only to fall off the map by the end of that day. He did make the cut, but his 71-76 weekend left him in a tie for 63rd.
Brian Stuard – He opened with a 4-under par 67 in Thursday’s first round and was just four shots off the lead. However, he came back with a 7-over par 78 on Friday to miss the cut. In the process, he fell six spots in the FedEx Cup standings.
