Scottie Scheffler dazzled as a rookie last season on the PGA Tour. His time is coming soon for a win.

The Houston Open could be just the spot for the Texan. The Dallas native has five top-20s in his last eight starts.

He finished T-4th at the PGA Championship and had his chance at playing at the U.S. Open dashed by COVID-19. While it seems like his health was not greatly impacted, it slowed down a bit of his momentum.

He missed the cut against a weak field at the Sanderson Farms Championship and settled for T-52nd at the no-cut CJ Cup. The 24 year old appears to be back on the upswing after three rounds in the 60s and a T-17th his last time out at the Zozo Championship.

Scheffler is 4-for-4 making the cut in PGA Tour events in his home state. That includes T-28th at the 2019 Houston Open at Golf Club of Houston.

The former Texas Longhorn standout can hit it a mile. Distance isn’t essential at Memorial Park, but I think it will be rewarded. He ranked 10th on Tour in 2019-2020 in strokes gained off the tee (.618).

It looks like this week might be full of red numbers. Scheffler was seventh in birdies per round at 4.35.

He was outside the top 100 in SG putting, but that tends to be the area where rookies struggle most. Plus, he was in the top 25 in putts per round in rounds one and two.

Once those nerves calm down on the weekend and he gets more familiar on PGA Tour greens, watch out.
