Houston Open: Beau Hossler falls apart in Friday round
By Tim Letcher
Beau Hossler has a bright future ahead of him. But after his round on Friday, that future does not include playing the weekend at the Houston Open.
Beau Hossler is a talented young player on the PGA Tour. He has a ton of talent and is going to be a winner on tour at some point. Unfortunately for Hossler, that win will not come this week, especially after the round he had Friday at the Houston Open.
Hossler opened play in the Houston Open with a 5-over par 75 on Thursday. That meant he would need to shoot something around, or just under, par to make the cut and to be able to play the weekend.

He started his round on the back nine and made pars on both the 10th and 11th holes to start his round. He would bogey the par-4 12th hole to slip to 1-over on his round.
After a par at the 13th, Hossler started a stretch of holes that would essentially finish his week. He bogeyed the par-4 14th hole to slip to 2-over par.
Then on the 15th hole, a par three, Hossler had all kinds of problems.
His tee shot landed in the intermediate rough. And it was from there than he launched his second shot into the water. After a penalty, he dropped in the rough. But his fourth shot also went in the water.
Hossler took another drop in the rough and was able to get his sixth shot on the green. Then, he needed two putts to get in, as he ultimately carded an eight. At that point, he was seven over par on his round. Another bogey followed and Hossler would shoot a 43 on his first nine.
As he made the turn, Hossler’s troubles continued. He bogeyed the first hole to slip to 9-over par on his round.
After a par on the second hole, Hossler birdied the par-5 third hole, getting back to 8-over par. He then bogeyed the fourth, but he birdied the fifth to get back to 8-over.
Hossler would par the sixth before his round fell completely apart at the end. He bogeyed the seventh, double bogeyed the eighth and bogeyed the ninth. That left him with a 12-over par round of 82.
There will be a day when Hossler wins on the PGA Tour. That just won’t be this week.
