The Masters: five old guys who could make the cut
By Tim Letcher
2. Bernhard Langer
Amazingly, Langer has won 117 professional golf events in his career. Included in that total are a pair of wins at Augusta National.
Langer first won the event in 1985, when he beat Seve Ballesteros, Raymond Floyd and Curtis Strange by two shots. He won again in 1993, topping Chip Beck and the rest of the field by four shots. It turns out that those two wins were the only major championships of Langer’s long, successful career.
Langer, known for his accuracy and putting, has played in the Masters 36 times in his career. He has finished in the top 10 on nine occasions, including in 2014 when he did so as a 56-year-old.
Langer’s success at Augusta National has continued the last few years. He made the cut last season and finished in a tie for 62nd place. In 2018, he tied for 38th. He missed the cut in 2017, but finished in a tie for 24th in 2017.
Now 63 years of age, Langer still has plenty of game. He has already won on the PGA Tour Champions this season and is a regular contender on that tour. It would be absolutely no surprise to see Langer make the cut at Augusta National again this year.
