The Masters: top 10 past champions who could win again in 2020
By Tim Letcher
No. 6 Jordan Spieth (winner in 2015)
When Jordan Spieth won the Masters in 2015, he was about to be atop the golf world. He was the best player on the planet and looked like he had plenty of major titles in his future. After all, he would go on to win the U.S. Open that summer for his second straight major championship.
However, Spieth first showed that he was human the next year at the Masters. He led with nine holes to play, only to fall apart on the back nine, letting Willett through for a win.
He seemed to bounced back from that, winning once in 2016 and three times in 2017, including his third major title, which came at the Open Championship. That left him just a PGA Championship short of the career Grand Slam at just 24 years of age.
Amazingly, Spieth has not won on tour since that triumph in July of 2017. He has had all kinds of issues and has struggled in both finding fairways and on the greens. He’s simply not the player he was three years ago.
However, that talent is in there and Spieth is still just 27 years old. He has been able to get himself into contention several times over the past couple of years, only to have a bad hole, or a bad stretch, finish his chances. It would be a surprise if he won this year, but it would be a welcome return for a former Masters champion.
