2020 RSM Classic: Top 10 power rankings at Sea Island
Harris English was among the handful of big names who were sitting at home watching the Masters wondering what they could have done if they were there.
The world No. 36 had a fantastic 2020, but the bulk of his success came after the Masters field was locked in in March. By reaching the Tour Championship (where he finished T-12th), English will at least be strolling down Magnolia Lane in 2021.
Now, the Georgian is strolling around in his home state two and a half hours northeast from his hometown of Valdosta.
I like his fine form in 2020 to help him overcome a surprising lack of high finishes at the RSM Classic. His high finish since the June restart was solo second at The Northern Trust, which fueled his FedEx Cup Playoffs run.
The 31-year-old former Georgia Bulldog had a streak of six top-25s and recently has top-10s at the U.S. Open (fourth) and CJ Cup (10th). English has just two missed cuts in 2020.
This will be the Sea Island resident’s eighth RSM Classic start. His best finish was in his debut in 2012, T-15th (71-66-66-68). He’s made four cuts with three top-30s and T-46th being the other.
His intimate course knowledge is due to pay off for him better.
English ranked 52nd or better in all strokes gained categories last season on the PGA Tour and was seventh overall (1.467). He hits a ton of greens (ninth, 70.91%) and will really take it low this week if he can have an above average week on approach proximity then there’s no reason he can’t win.
