2020 RSM Classic: Top 10 power rankings at Sea Island
Louis Oosthuizen came out of the gates hot last week at Augusta National. He hovered around the lead for about 27 holes until he slipped on the leaderboard to T-23rd (68-70-75-70).
He hit 16 greens in round one to keep him near the lead early on. The putter didn’t cooperate the way he would have liked.
Nonetheless, the South African comes into his RSM Classic debut in good form. Oosthuizen was solo third recently at the U.S. Open. He’s made his last eight cuts going back to June.
The 38 year old didn’t jump off the stat leaders pages last season but was on the rise late. He was 50th in SG putting a season ago (.258) and is 31st early on in this one (.765).
With how well he can flush it, rolling putts in are what can get him into the winner’s circle for the first time in the U.S. His lone PGA Tour sanctioned win came at the 2010 Open Championship when he dominated at St. Andrew’s. Oosthuizen does have 14 worldwide wins, most coming in South Africa. He also has finished second in every major for the Runner Up Slam.
Oosthuizen has found success in the southeast: He was runner up at the 2012 Masters, 2017 PGA Championship and 2019 Valspar Championship.
It’s hard to believe he hasn’t won anywhere since December 2018. The laid back vibes of Sea Island should mesh well with Louis as I envision him to saunter his way into contention this week.
