Peyton Manning and Steph Curry face Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley in The Match: Champions for Change the day after Thanksgiving.

Golf fans will get a post-Thanksgiving treat this week when The Match: Champions for Change takes place on Friday afternoon. And this edition of the event features a bit of a twist. This version of the event features Phil Mickelson partnering with Charles Barkley, facing Steph Curry and Peyton Manning. We will break down each team, starting with the Curry/Manning pairing here.

Curry made his name in the world of basketball, leading Davidson to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in his sophomore season. He would play his junior year at Davidson before embarking on his professional career.

In the NBA, Curry has been very, very successful. He has led the Golden State Warriors to three NBA titles and has been named the NBA MVP twice.

As for his golf game, Curry is definitely no slouch. He is something around a scratch golfer, as far as his handicap, and has played in a number of celebrity charity events.

In 2017, Curry played in the Ellie Mae Classic on the Web.com Tour. Playing TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, California, the Warriors’ point guard shot 74-74 and missed the cut. But that’s still a very solid showing for someone who has another profession.

Manning made his name on the football field, first leading the Tennessee Volunteers to a great deal of success before landing with the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. After 13 seasons in Indy, Manning played four years for the Denver Broncos.

He led both franchises to Super Bowl victories. Manning led the Colts to the win in Super Bowl XLI, when he was named MVP, and the Broncos to the title in Super Bowl 50.

Manning won five NFL MVP awards, was the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2012 and was the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2005.

We last saw Manning on the golf course in May, when he paired with Tiger Woods to beat Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in the last version of The Match: Champions for Charity. Manning showed a solid game that day, hitting a fairly consistent draw off the tee and making enough putts to have a say in the match.

Curry is the better player of the two. What this duo has to hope for is that the modified alternate shot match play format is in their favor. Meaning, they need to hope that Barkley is so bad that Mickelson is unable to make up the difference.

The guess here is that this duo probably wins because Barkley is so bad. But take nothing away form Curry and Manning, both have proven to be solid players in their own right.
