If it seems like things have quieted down with Will Zalatoris, it’s of no fault of his own. The young rising star just hasn’t had an opportunity to play.

The Big Z earned special temporary membership on the PGA Tour this year by playing well enough in his seven allotted sponsors’ exemptions. Zalatoris can now accept as many sponsor invites as he’d like through the rest of the season to try to earn his card for 2021-22.

He did not get an invite into Houston, was not eligible for the Masters and was not invited to Sea Island, hence the time off.

He finally got the call to head to Mexico to make his Mayakoba Golf Classic debut.

The Wake Forest product’s last start was five weeks ago at the Bermuda Championship where he was T-16th. That was his fourth top-20 in his last five outings, the other three being top-10s. The highlight was T-6th at the U.S. Open.

Counting Korn Ferry Tour events, the 24 year old has 16 top-25s in his last 17 starts. He won the TPC Colorado Championship.

Zalatoris ranks 13th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.733) and 10th in SG approach (1.153). He’s got work to do cleaning up putting and short game, but that will come with more reps at PGA Tour venues.

It seems like a matter of time before Zalatoris wins out here. What better way to build the hype for 2021 by doing it against a quality field at the Mayakoba?
