2020 DP World Tour Championship: Top 10 power rankings at the Earth course
Andy Sullivan established himself as one of the top Europeans in the mid 2015s. His impressive run peaked in 2015 when he won three times on the European Tour.
Sullivan’s game dipped as it seems like the game’s distance advantage left shorter hitters like him at a steeper disadvantage. The Englishman’s regaining his form in the new decade and is showing he can still hang.
Sullivan won for the first time since 2015 when he cruised to a seven-shot victory in August at the English Championship.
The 34 year old hopped back into contention at the BMW PGA Championship (T-3rd) and last week at the Golf in Dubai Championship.
Sullivan was the early leader over at Jumeirah’s Fire course thanks to a tournament low 61 in round one before settling for T-2nd.
The fun-loving golfer leads the European Tour in scoring average (69.25). He qualified with ease for his seventh DP World Tour Championship in a row. Sullivan has finished no worse than T-48th and was as high as solo second (66-66-68-68) in 2015 where he was a shot back of Rory McIlroy.
Sullivan tied for 10th (70-74-67-69) last year.
While big hitters have an advantage at the Earth course, guys like Sullivan can gain distance on the ground. Then it’s down to irons and putting. He’s got the first part down, sitting at eighth in greens in regulation (72.32%). His work on the greens was about average in 2020, though he seems to putt well in Dubai.
