Patrick Reed’s played in continental Europe once all year. He’s only played in two European Tour events in 2020. Yet, the American finds himself at the top of the Race to Dubai rankings.

World Golf Championships and majors count toward the season long race. That’s where Reed made his hay. He tipped the scales with a win at the WGC-Mexico Championship and added two T-13s and a T-10th at the three majors. Not only that, but the divisive golfer took T-3rd at the BMW PGA Championship.

I’ll give Reed credit in that he’s gone overseas to play more events than most Americans. Yet, it’s still a little odd to see him in this position.

This is the Texan’s fifth appearance to the DP World Tour Championship. He’s had a nice string of results, taking T-10th (70-65-68-73) in 2015, T-10th (65-72-68-68) in 2017, T-2nd (69-66-67-70) and 2018 before dipping to T-28th (74-68-72-72) in 2019.

“The greens are so pure, you’ve got to putt well,” Reed was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2018. “But at the same time, you know, if you’re hitting the ball solid and give yourself a lot of opportunities, you can really attack this golf course.”

The 2018 Masters champ also made his last start at Augusta National where he was T-10th in the 2020 edition. It was Reed’s fifth straight top-14 finish as well as his eighth made cut in a row.

The 30 year old was 12th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting (.599). He was also 26th in SG tee to green (.696) and 11th in birdie average (4.23).
