2020 DP World Tour Championship: Top 10 power rankings at the Earth course
Matthew Fitzpatrick has a way of saving some of his best golf for last. The Englishman’s teed it up at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship five times with four top-12s including a win in 2016.
The former U.S. Amateur champion made his Dubai debut in style in 2015 when he carded 68-70-67-70 to finish T-4th. He did four shots better to win by one a year later with scores of 69-69-66-67.
Most recently, Fitzpatrick earned solo ninth (71-71-68-69) in 2019.
Fitzy’s made the cut in all three European Tour starts in 2020. That includes T-2nd at another desert event, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He’s made 11 straight cuts on the Euro Tour dating back to 2019 with three runner-up finishes.
The 26 year old missed the cut in his last start at the RSM Classic. He isn’t far removed from a run of three straight top-26s, including T-7th at the BMW PGA Championship.
Fitzpatrick added three top-10s this summer on the PGA Tour. He ranked second on this tour last season in strokes gained putting (.88).
Bombers tend to have an advantage at the DP World Tour Championship. Just don’t tell that to Matthew.
“You know, when I first ever came here, it wasn’t a golf course that people thought I could do well around, really,” Fitzpatrick was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2019, “but it’s a golf course I love. I feel like it suits my game. I have good iron play and really good putting, and that’s the big difference, really.”
