Tommy Fleetwood has a thing for desert golf. The Englishman heats up with the warm climate as he went back to back at the 2017 and 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He nearly won again in the Middle East in 2019 (67-68-70-65) at the DP World Tour Championship where he was solo second and had a comeback fall just one short of the Race to Dubai champ, Jon Rahm. Rahm won’t be standing in the way this time.

Once again, Fleetwood contended in Abu Dhabi taking T-2nd in 2020.

This year marks the seventh appearance for the 29 year old at Jumeirah’s Earth course.

Fleetwood has finished on the top half of the leaderboard each of his last three visits and had a top-10 in 2016 (T-9th, 70-71-67-68).

The 2021 Ryder Cup lock is in danger of going without a worldwide win in a year for the first time since 2016. He does have two runner-up finishes this year at Abu Dhabi and the Scottish Open. He’s missed just one cut since July and recently posted T-19th at the Masters.

Fleetwood has been hit or miss on the PGA Tour but beats up on European Tour competition. He’s finished T-13th or better in four starts in 2020.

The long-locked lad ranked 24th on the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained off the tee (.389) and 26th in SG putting (.437). His iron play was down, but I expect him to break out of that slump before long.
