Kevin Streelman: 2021 FedEx Cup Contender or Pretender?
By Tim Letcher
Kevin Streelman has had an inconsistent 2020-21 season on the PGA Tour. Is he a contender or pretender for this year’s FedEx Cup?
With the 2020 portion of the PGA Tour schedule in the books, we at Pro Golf Now will be taking a look at the current top 50, and some selected others, in the current FedEx Cup standings and whether they are contenders or pretenders for the 2021 FedEx Cup. Our latest subject is the current No. 50, Kevin Streelman.
Best career FedEx Cup finish: Streelman has finished 25th in the FedEx Cup standings on two occasions. First, in 2010, he had five Top 10 finishes on his way to finishing 25th. Then, in 2013, Streelman finished 25th again in a season where he got his first career win, coming at the Tampa Bay Championship.

So far this season: Streelman has entered eight events so far in the 2020-21 season and his results have been all over the map. He started his season very well, with a tie for third at the Safeway Open in September.
However, the following week, he missed the cut at the U.S. Open after shooting 73-75 to finish 8-over par. After a couple of weeks off, he returned at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, where he also missed the cut.
At that point, Streelman’s season was at a crossroads. It could have gone either way for the veteran.
He stayed in Las Vegas and played the CJ Cup the following week, and the results were much better. Streelman shot 6-under par and finished in a tie for 21st against a stellar field.
The following week, facing a similar field, Streelman was good again. He finished in a tie for 28th after rallying to shoot a 64 on Sunday.
Since then, Streelman missed the cut at the Houston Open, tied for 54th at the RSM Classic and tied for 32nd at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Again, a mixed bag of results in just his last three events.
The verdict: Streelman has never seriously contended for the FedEx Cup and at 42 years old, it’s not likely that 2021 will be the first time he does so. His mixed bag of results from this season don’t show any indication that he will make a run at the title. Consider Streelman a pretender for this year’s title.
