Cameron Tringale has never come close to winning the FedEx Cup during his 12-year PGA Tour career. Could this be the year he makes the jump?

With the 2020 portion of the PGA Tour schedule in the books, we at Pro Golf Now will be taking a look at the current top 50, and some selected others, in the current FedEx Cup standings and whether they are contenders or pretenders for the 2021 FedEx Cup. Our latest subject is the current No. 39, Cameron Tringale.

Best career FedEx Cup finish: Tringale is in his 12th year on the PGA Tour, something that many may not realize. In his 11 seasons, he has qualified for the postseason eight times. His best finish came in 2014, when he made his only career trip to East Lake for the Tour Championship. That season, he finished a career-best 20th in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

So far this season: It’s been a mixed bag of results for Tringale so far this season. He opened his 2020-21 campaign at the Safeway Open, where he shot 70-71 to miss the cut.

After taking a couple of weeks off, he returned, playing the Sanderson Farms Championship. He started his week by shooting 68 on Thursday and 69 on Friday. He found himself in contention with 36 holes to play. But a 72-73 weekend left him in a tie for 37th place.

The following week, Tringale found himself in contention at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open after shooting 66-66-66 in the first three rounds. But his final-round 70 dropped him into a tie for 19th place.

Tringale would take a couple of weeks off before the homestretch of the 2020 calendar year.

When he returned, he promptly shot 70-74 at the Bermuda Championship. That left him outside the cut line.

At the Houston Open, he had a consistent week. Tringale shot 70-70-69-69 to finish in a tie for 29th place.

His final start of 2020 came at the RSM Classic. And Tringale saved the best for last.  A final-round 62 vaulted him up the leader board and into third place, his best finish of the season.

The verdict: Tringale has made 288 starts on the PGA Tour without a win. Until he can win, he can’t contend for the PGA Tour. Consider him a pretender for the FedEx Cup.
