So far this season: This season got off to a fine start for Oosthuizen. His first event was the U.S. Open where he shot 67 on Thursday and 68 on Saturday. He was in the mix before the final round, where he shot 73 to finish solo third.
His next start was at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He shot 65 on Thursday and 68 on Friday to put himself into contention. But a 71 on Saturday did him in. Even a 64 on Sunday could not make up the ground he lost in the third round. Oosthuizen would finish in a tie for 19th place.
At the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek, Oosthuizen struggled a bit, shooting four rounds in the 70s. He would finish in a tie for 48th place.
At the Masters, Oosthuizen opened with a 68 and appeared to be ready to contend for his second major. But a 75 on Saturday took him out of the mix. He would finish in a tie for 23rd place.
Oosthuizen would play just one more event on the season.
And it didn’t go the way he had hoped. At the RSM Classic, Oosthuizen shot 73-69 to miss the cut, ending the season with a thud.
The verdict: Oosthuizen is one of the most talented players in the world. He could certainly put it all together and win the FedEx Cup. Consider him a contender for the crown this year.
