Western Open/BMW Championship

The staple of Chicagoland, the BMW Championship, formerly known as the Western Open, is another place where Tiger has had great success. Woods has won the event on five occasions.

Tiger’s first win there came in 1997, when he topped Frank Nobilo, who some of you may only know as a golf analyst, by three shots.

Woods would win the Western Open again in 1999, shooting a 15-under par total score. That was good enough to beat Mike Weir by three strokes.

The 2003 Western Open was the 100th edition of the event. So it made sense that Woods would win, and would do so in convincing fashion. He shot 21-under par to run away with the event, beating Rich Beem by five shots.

In 2007, Woods won the BMW Championship, which was part of the FedEx Cup playoffs, but was still the Western Open to some. At any rate, Woods claimed the title with a 22-under par total to beat Aaron Baddeley by two shots.

Tiger’s last win in the BMW Championship came in 2009. That season, he dominated the field once again, winning by a whopping eight shots. The runners-up, who were way, way back, were Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman.
