European Tour Fantasy Golf First Look: Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
By Hans Geevers
The European Tour Tour will resume play at the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Let’s take an early first look at this tournament from a fantasy golf perspective!
*This article is providing an early fantasy golf first look at my player picks for this event. No DraftKings prices will be noted in this content as the contests have not yet been posted. My more detailed Draftkings Preview will be published a few days prior to the start of the tournament.
The 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship will be played at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates. The golf course is a par 72 that measures 7,583 yards. The course has nine water hazards and bermuda grass greens. This desert track also offers tight fairways that will require golfers to be accurate off the tee.
It should also be noted that this event has been played at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club every year since 2006. What does that mean to you? Well, from a DFS perspective, that means you will have an abundance of previous event history to evaluate as you compile player pools for your fantasy golf lineups.
Based on my review of previous winners of this event, the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to success at the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship are the following: driving accuracy, GIR (greens in regulation), putts per GIR, and bogey avoidance.
Now let’s turn our attention to my fantasy golf first look player selections for the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship!
Bernd Wiesberger
The current 40th ranked player in the current listed OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) will arrive at the first event on the European Tour schedule in 2021 in a rather good form. More specifically, Wiesberger had three top 16 finishes in his last five events (European and PGA Tours combined) played in 2020, including a fourth-place result at the RSM Classic in November.
I also like the fact that Wiesberger has performed well at this event previously. Bernd finished eighth at the 2020 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Andy Sullivan
The Englishman finished the year of 2020 playing some quality golf. In his last five golf tournaments played on the European Tour, Sullivan had three top-ten finishes, including a second-place result at the Golf in Dubai Championship a month ago.
Sullivan fired a third-round 68 at the 2020 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship en route to an eventual 21st place finish.
Scott Jamieson
The 37-year-old had two top 20 finishes in his last four tournaments played on the European Tour, including a sixth-place result at the Alfred Dunhill Championship five weeks ago.
Jamieson has played the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship for the last two years. In those two events played, Jamieson has two top 11 finishes, including an eighth-place result in 2020.
I hope this early first look at the 2021Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship helps! Good luck!
