Vijay Singh

Vijay Singh was a great player on the PGA Tour. Had he not been in his prime at the same time as Tiger Woods, he would have likely won more than he did. Still, Singh won 34 times on tour, a win total of which most pros would be jealous.

Singh had five instances where he finished second to Woods during his career. The first time came in 1999 at the Memorial Tournament. Woods had a very strong week, winning Jack Nicklaus’ event for the first time with a 15-under par score. Singh made a run, but finished two shots behind Tiger.

At the 2000 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Woods and Singh went at it again. And again, Tiger prevailed. Woods was again 15-under par, and he again beat Singh (and Matt Gogel) by two shots.

In 2001, at the Players Championship, Woods and Singh battled each other and TPC Sawgrass. It was Tiger who was the winner, with a score of 14-under par. This time, Singh got within one shot, but could not overtake Woods.

At the WGC-American Express Championship in 2003, Tiger shot 6-under par, two shots better than Singh, Stuart Appleby and Tim Herron.

The final runner-up finish for Singh to Woods came in the 2006 Deutsche Bank Championship. Woods shot 16-under par to again beat Singh by two strokes.
