What should we expect from Brooks Koepka this week? Your guess is as good as mine.

Throughout the past several years, his performance has been inconsistent in non-majors. He’s been on record saying these events don’t get his juices flowing the same way.

With that said, he showed good signs to close 2020 after a fairly lackluster year plagued by injury. Koepka finished T-5th at the Houston Open and a week later T-7th at the Masters.

The last time we saw him was at the Mayakoba Golf Classic where a pair of 71s kept him from the weekend by just one shot.

The Floridian skipped the Hawaii swing so this our first glimpse of him in 2021. Koepka comes to The American Express for the first time. He usually skips this event to play the European Tour, where he began his career, or to rest for more prestigious stops coming up on the West Coast swing.

Koepka’s played well on the West Coast before with a win at the 2015 Phoenix Open.

The 30 year old had another great season in 2019-20 off the tee. He came in at 28th in strokes gained (.362) to go with 47th in SG approach (.322). Absent was his short game and putting, which are bound to improve if he’s in the type of health he displayed late in the year.

A lot of players are coming east to PGA West from Hawaii, so look for a rested Koepka to come out firing in search of his first win since 2019.
