I couldn’t believe my eyes. Daniel Berger actually missed a cut.

It happened for just the second time since October 2019 last week at the Phoenix Open. Even then, it wasn’t anything atrocious. Berger shot 69-71 (-2) to miss by one.

The Floridian has otherwise been stellar to start off 2021. He finished 10th at the Tournament of Champions and T-7th at the Sony Open. This, of course, is following an incredible 2020 that saw Berger win at Colonial and rack up seven top-10s.

The Jupiter resident has to be looking forward to the upcoming Florida swing, but the opposite coast has still treated Berger well.

He debuted at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2015 with T-10th (67-66-69-70). He didn’t return to these storied golf links until the 2019 U.S. Open where he posted T-49th (73-70-74-70).

Berger then produced his best career result in California in 2020 with T-5th (70-69-70-69) at the Pro-Am.

The 27 year old has had a balky short game that’s kept him from contending in 2020-21, but he was 28th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green (.271) last season, so I like for that to improve.

His ball striking remains solid and Berger’s sixth this season in birdie average (4.88). He’s not as long as some of the young guns these days, but that’s not a deterrent at Pebble Beach.
