Patrick Cantlay is known for his consistency from week to week, course type to course type.

It makes sense that the Californian feels at home at Pebble Beach. It’s a ways away from his stomping grounds in Long Beach, but he plays well all over the West Coast swing.

“I like the whole feel up here,” Cantlay was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2020. “It’s one of my favorite places. I can see myself retiring here some day. I love Carmel, and it’s just beautiful.”

Counting the 2019 U.S. Open, Cantlay’s made all five cuts at Pebble Beach. He’s finished T-48th or better each time with three top-25s. The next step is to contend for the trophy as T-9th (66-70-72-67) in his Pebble Beach Pro-Am debut in 2013 remains his highest finish.

Cantlay came close to that mark last year when 66-69-72-73 netted him T-11th. He’ll have to improve at Pebble this time around as his third and fourth rounds cost him a chance at the win.

I like him to do so given the form he brings in. He’s coming off two weeks of rest after claiming solo second at The American Express. His incredible Sunday 61 left him one shot out of a playoff and it took Si-Woo Kim to finish in 64 to win.

Cantlay made the cut in Palm Springs on the number and played the weekend in 18 under. He was top 14 in the field in every strokes gained category.

The 28 year old has won in three of the last four calendar years. The last came in October at Sherwood where he edged out Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm to win the Zozo Championship.

Cantlay’s missed just one cut since March 2019. His last four starts read: 1-T17-T13-2.
