You may not realize it because he’s never won, but Kevin Streelman is a top-10 machine at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Streels has played this event 13 teams and missed the cut his first three times. Perhaps the spectacle of playing alongside celebrities at a trio of the world’s most breathtaking courses got to the humble kid from Wheaton, Illinois.

His tournament debut in 2004 was just his second PGA Tour start and the first away from his home state.

The former Duke Blue Devil got it figured out at Pebble Beach in 2010 when he posted T-35th. Since then, Streelman has piled up four top-10s and two more top-20s.

His closest call came last year when he finished solo second (69-67-68-68) and helped partner Larry Fitzgerald to the amateur title. Streelman finished four back of Nick Taylor, whose 268 was tied for the fourth-lowest winning total in tournament history.

Streelman is running out of time at age 42 to add to his two career PGA Tour wins. He last got it done at the 2014 Travelers Championship. That’s not to say he hasn’t had his chances recently.

Streelman nearly doubled up at the 2020 Travelers where he was solo second. Later in the year, he got in contention in wine country with T-3rd at the Safeway Open.

He’s never been a long hitter, but credit Streelman for scheduling well and making the most of courses that suit his game. Pebble Beach and its adjoining courses are right up there with TPC River Highlands.

Streelman ranks 56th in strokes gained approach (.423) and is 51st in fairway percentage (65.06). He’s a great long iron player who’s 14th in greens in regulation (74.07%).

Streels is also a guy you can never count out late in an event. He came from behind with a Sunday 64 at the Travelers and is known for taking it low in the final round.

He enters the week with four made cuts in his last five events, including T-22nd last week at the Phoenix Open.
