Fantasy Golf: Sleeper DraftKings Selections for AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
By Kasey Kuhrts
Last week four of my five undervalued and sleeper DraftKings selections made the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, highlighted by Sam Burns, Russell Henley, and Matt Jones, who all finished in the top 30.
This week the tour heads to historic Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which won’t actually be a pro-am. However, this is a weak field with little star power, especially with the withdraw from Dustin Johnson. Guys like Sam Burns and Cameron Davis, who are usually high 7K, low 8K players, are both 9K this week.
As always, check out Hans Geevers full-lineup picks that he posts each and every week. Hans’ article is also great for reading about the course, and how he believes it will play.
And of course, as always in my articles, I am only looking at players under the average DraftKings salary of $8,333. Finding value is the most important thing when making your selections, so I hope to bring you some solid options.
The key stats I will be looking at this week will be par 5 performance, par 5 birdie or better, par 4 performance, par 4 birdie or better, strokes gained putting and on approach, greens in regulation, and proximity to the hole. Here are my selections.
Matt Jones $8,100
One of Hans’ selections, and my only 8K selection this week is Matt Jones. Jones makes my list for the second week in a row after he extended his made cut streak to eight straight.
So far this season Jones sits 12th on tour in par 5 performance, tied 28th in par 4 performance, 32nd in strokes gained putting, 34th in par 5 birdie or better, and 79th in greens in regulation.
This will be Jones’ 14th start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, making 11/13 cuts so far. Last year Jones finished fifth, the best finish of his career at this event.
Peter Malnati $7,800
My first 7K selection this week is Peter Malnati. Malnati already has three top-ten finishes on tour this season, highlighted by a solo second at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
So far on tour this season, Malnati sits second in par 4 par birdie or better, fourth in both par 4 performance and strokes gained putting, tied 30th in par 5 performance, 34th in strokes gained on approach, tied 61st in proximity to the hole, and 78th in par 5 birdie or better.
Malnati has made six career starts at this event, making the cut three times. His best finish was last season, which was 11th.
Patton Kizzire $7,600
I am slowly transiting from the Wesley Bryan Fan Club, to the Patton Kizzire Fan Club. Kizzire is on my sleeper list once again, as he continues his strong season.
Kizzire has made nine-straight cuts, highlighted by a T7 finish at the Sony Open, and a T10 at The RSM Classic.
So far this season Kizzire sits tied for seventh in par 5 performance, tied 12th in par 4 performance, 19th in strokes gained putting, 41st in par 5 birdie or better, 52nd in greens in regulation, and 53rd in par 4 birdie or better.
Kizzire has never played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Kevin Chappell $6,800
My first 6K selection this week is Kevin Chappell. Chappell hasn’t tee’d it up yet in 2021, but he’s coming off back-to-back made cuts to end 2020 at the Houston Open and The RSM Classic.
My main reason for Chappell being one of my selections is his course history at Pebble. In his last six starts at this event, Chappell has made the cut five times.
In those five made cuts, Chappell has three top-25 finishes. In 2015 he finished in 18th, in 2018 he finished in 8th, and last season he finished 25th.
In only 20 rounds on tour this season, Chappell is 88th in strokes gained putting.
Will Gordon $6,700
Will Gordon is my final 6K selection this week. Gordon will be making his first professional start at Pebble Beach this week after making two of his last three cuts on tour.
So far this season on tour, Gordon sits 19th in par 4 birdie or better, 58th in strokes gained putting, and tied 71st in par 5 performance.
