Who’s better since the restart than Daniel Berger?

5. Patrick Cantlay, -0.49

Cantlay’s 15 events since the restart include a victory at the Zozo. He’s been a consistent contender, with five top 10s including his two most recent efforts. He finished second to Si Woo Kim at the American Express and tied for third behind Berger and Maverick McNealy at the ATT.

We are coming to expect consistent contention from Cantlay, who stands 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking and jumped into first place in the FedEx Cup list with his showing this week. His 58 post-restart rounds work out to a 69.36 stroke average.

That includes 14 rounds of 66 or better. Two of those low rounds, a final round 61 at the Amex and a 62 this past Thursday – powered his high finishes in his most recent starts.

Cantlay’s problem is that he can from time to time let a round get away from him. His 14 very low rounds are counter-balanced by 14 rounds above 72, including four above 74.

His performance at the post-restarts three Majors has been less than inspiring. He tied for 43rd at the PGA, for 43rd again at the US Open and for 17th at the Masters. In that event Cantlay stood just one stroke off the lead through two rounds, but finished in 73-72 to come home 13 strokes behind Dustin Johnson.
