The Genesis Invitational 2021: Tournament preview and picks
Defending champion Adam Scott +4000 leads a handful of players in this range who are either past winners of the Genesis Invitational or have had immense success at Riviera in the past.
The Australian will be looking to go back to back this week and with tremendous history here and some solid performances to start 2021 he stands an excellent chance. Scott has recorded no worse than a finish of 11th in four of his last five starts at the Genesis Invitational.
Hideki Matsuyama +4500 will be looking to continue his run of excellent results at this event as well. Deki has a 5th and a 9th at the Riv over the last two years as well as an 11th back in 2016, and he will be hopeful that a trip back to the land of the stars kick-starts his game moving forward this year.
It’s hard to complain when you can find this many former champions in this range and that is exactly what we have next in Bubba Watson +5000. Watson is a three-time winner of this event with his most recent success coming back in 2018 and prior to his missed cut last year he had gone 15th, 1st, 1st, 14th, 1st at the Genesis.
It’s not only experience that marks this range this week however as the midtier is also home to some of the game’s brightest young stars including PGA champion Collin Morikawa +3300, Viktor Hovland +3500, and Scottie Scheffler +5000.
Morikawa will be making his second start at Riviera Country Club after posting a 26th in his debut here last year, he also will be playing stateside for the first time since the Hawaii swing after returning from overseas.
Meanwhile, Hovland will be making his first start at Riviera as part of the PGA tour and Scheffler will be looking to continue his momentum after a nice showing at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in his last start.
I’ll begin the card for the Genesis Invitational by taking two near the top of the board.
