2021 WGC-Workday Championship: Top 10 power rankings at The Concession
If you hear the sound of jet engines, that’s all the international players beginning to migrate over to the U.S.
It’s that time of year with the Players Championship coming in March and the Masters in April where guys want to be in the southeastern U.S. to acclimate to the style of golf and limit jet lag.
Hatton is among the names teeing it up in the U.S. for the first time in 2021 this week. He’s kept up his scorching form from 2020 in three starts on the European Tour’s Middle East.
The 29-year-old Englishman won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship by four and by five over Rory McIlroy who took third. Hatton followed with T-22nd the next week in Dubai and T-6th in Saudi Arabia.
After playing three straight weeks in hot weather, a couple weeks off before the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession should do him some good.
Hatton’s won six times on the European Tour. After some close calls in years prior, Hatton broke through for his first PGA Tour victory at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
He tends to play well in the southeast as he finished T-3rdat the 2020 RBC Heritage and T-4th at the 2017 Arnold Palmer.
The next goal for Hatton is to perform better in the majors. A stepping stone would be to win his first WGC.
He’s not a long hitter, which could be a detriment at The Concession. With that said, precise iron play should still matter. Hatton ranks 11th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (.812). He’s also 24th in SG putting (.616).
