2021 WGC-Workday Championship: Top 10 power rankings at The Concession
Bryson DeChambeau gained a large audience when he became a large man hitting large drives over the course of the last year.
He really began to make a name for himself when he arrived to The Concession Golf Club in 2015. DeChambeau was a junior at Southern Methodist University teeing it up at the NCAA Division I Championship.
He was ranked No. 28 in the Golfstat collegiate rankings and a rising prospect for the pro ranks at the time. DeChambeau’s Mustangs were unable to advance to the match play portion of the team tournament, but he tamed The Concession to the tune of 70-67-72-71 for a one-shot victory.
The summer of Bryson continued when he won the U.S. Amateur two months later.
It prompted him to turn pro the following year after the U.S. Open.
DeChambeau had some struggles on the Korn Ferry Tour and then on the PGA Tour in the early going. Ever the tinkerer, he quickly cleaned up his errors to become a constant winner.
Since 2017, DeChambeau has nine PGA Tour wins and another on the European Tour.
His pursuit of power has him first in driving distance (327.4). Par-5s are no problem for him and more par-4s are now reachable, which helps him rank first in holes per eagle (46.3).
From shot to shot, Bryson can be a bit errant with his accuracy. Yet, from tournament to tournament it balances out to produce consistent results. The 27 year old has five top-25s in his last eight starts.
In 2020, DeChambeau had a ridiculous run of seven straight top-eights that culminated in a win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He broke through in the fall for his maiden major win at the US. Open.
Winged Foot and The Concession are both big ballparks.
DeChambeau will look to shake off a rare missed cut last week at the Genesis Invitational by recreating the magic in Bradenton.
